We're coming home!

Following an easing of lockdown restrictions relating to places of worship, The Cong will be reopening for gathered services on Sunday 12th July.

I recognise that some of you will not be able to come back to church straight away due to shielding, and others may not want to return just yet, so we will continue to provide the online live stream each week as well as printed materials for those without internet access.  We do not want anybody to feel under any pressure to return before they are comfortable doing so, but we know that many of you have been waiting patiently for this day so are excited to be able to share this news with you.

Our Leadership Team have been planning and preparing for this step for a long time, and are confident that we are in a position to begin to reopen safely.  Click here to view our current Risk Assessment with full details of the measures in place.  A summary of the key points you may need to be aware of if you plan to return to services at church are below:

You must pre-register

There are a reduced number of seats available (some in the main church and some in the Large Hall via a live video link).  To help us manage capacity, and to prevent us having to turn people away, you must pre-register if you would like to attend church.  We also have a legal obligation to do this for contact tracing purposes.

Priority will be given to those who do not have internet access.  If this applies to you, please call the church (020 8524 6753) any time between Monday morning and Thursday morning to reserve your place at the next Sunday service.  Leave a message if there is no answer – all we need is your name, contact number, and how many seats you would like.

For everybody else, online registration will open each Thursday to register for the coming Sunday.  This will be easy to do through our website, but even easier to do using your "My ChurchSuite" app or online account.  Get in touch if you would like us to send you a reminder email to access this.

If you turn up to church without having registered in advance, you will only be allowed in if there is capacity, and you must provide your name and contact details (if we do not already have them) to the Welcome Team.

Safety measures

  • Please do not come out if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. We also strongly advise you to follow medical advice and continue to shield if you are required to.
  • There will be hand sanitizing stations at each entrance, and you will be asked to clean your hands when you arrive and when you leave.
  • We will be carrying out non-contact temperature checks on entry, using contactless forehead thermometers.
  • Social distancing (2 metres) will be maintained at all times inside and outside the building.
  • We strongly encourage everyone to wear a face covering unless you have a medical reason for not doing so.
  • Doors will be kept open to ensure ventilation and facilitate touch-free access.
  • We will not be serving refreshments, passing out Bibles, or using offering bags for the collection. Communion will also be shared in a safe, contact-free way.
  • You will notice some changes to the layout of the building to ensure your safety at all times.

Children's Church

Unfortunately, we will not be able to run Children's Church during Sunday services just yet.  We will keep things under review, and there may be some change in September. In the meantime, services will be shorter and suitable for all ages.

During lockdown we have run a weekly online gathering (using Zoom) for our children and young people every Sunday morning.  We will continue to run online sessions when church reopens, but these will move to a different time to allow everybody to take part who would like to.  More details to follow!

This is only a snapshot of the measures in place – there may be some developments as clarification is received from government in the days ahead, and we will keep things under constant review to ensure your continued safety.

Our online services will continue, with some special friends joining us for our last online-only service on Sunday 5th July.  Stay tuned!
